Responsible for planning, managing and directing all machine center activities to include such services as assigned to achieve efficient and economical production within established value various programs essential to manufacturing procedures i.e. training, safety, housekeeping, work simplification, cost as a liaison between management and hourly levels to keep personnel informed on matters of communication, decisions and policies.
Play a key role in safety and safety accountability on shift. Ensure all employees follow all safety policies and procedures. Ensure requisite monthly training is covered with all employees.
Plan, direct, and schedule hourly personnel in operations of several areas or a section of the department.
Responsible for maintaining shift schedules, quality standards, efficient and safe utilization of machinery and equipment, requisitions necessary for supplies and equipment.
Investigate delays and equipment failures and initiate correction action. Investigate substandard yields and initiate corrective action.
Maintain harmonious employee relations, handle employee grievances as required, recommend appropriate changes in status and administer company policy.
Use reinforcement/recognition, positive and negative, to direct the behaviors and performance of the operating personnel. Issue discipline as needed.
Maintain necessary records and controls relative to operating cost. Continuously seek ways to reduce labor and costs in the production of current and new products.
Confer with management in customer department on a consistent basis to appraise them of issues with material that may affect yields off the presses.
Maintain communication across shifts with other supervisors to ensure an efficient and productive environment is maintained.
Experience in supervising in a manufacturing environment
Previous experience in working in a union environment
Strong interpersonal and team building skills
Good communication (written and oral) skills
Ability to see big picture issues rather than focusing on minutiae
Ability to see outside the box, come up with ideas that improve shift and departmental performance
